Electrical Engineer II

Candidate can choose either our Herndon, Virginia, or Salt Lake City, Utah, location.

You will help ARTIS develop new generations of sensing and active defense technologies in a fast paced and exciting environment. As part of a small and dedicated team, you will be given immediate responsibility for designing and analyzing complex electrical systems. Typical day to day work is done using Altium for design, along with analysis tools like Excel and MATLAB.

As an EE II you will be given design requirements and, with mentorship, will be expected to complete the design with periodic reviews. You will also be expected to fully document, prototype, and test/qualify your design. Design and system testing occurs at internal Artis facilities, at test facilities, and test ranges around the country.

Electrical Engineering Technician

Herndon, Virginia location.

You will help ARTIS develop new generations of sensing, real-time processing, and actuation technologies in a fast paced and exciting environment. As part of a small and dedicated team, you will be given immediate responsibility for designing, building, testing, and debugging electrical systems. Typical day to day involves collaborating with engineers to bring-up new designs, perform verification testing, build mechanical assemblies, maintain parts inventory, and maintain organization of the electrical engineering lab.

As an Electronics Engineering Technician, you will be expected to have a knowledge of fundamental electronic design principles, and be able to apply them to building, testing, and troubleshooting electronics (PCB). You will contribute by providing feedback on best fabrication practices and suggesting improvements, as well maintaining clear records of work done. You will help develop and test new systems in a collaborative environment, pushing the state of modern technology to the edges of the laws of physics. Testing occurs at internal Artis facilities, test facilities, and test ranges around the country.

  • Prototype electrical PCBs, using both surface mount (SMT) and thru-hole components, as well as any supporting mechanical assembly
  • Testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and modifying circuit designs
  • Build, assemble components, subsystems, systems, and perform associated functional tests
  • Inventory tracking of parts and assembled boards
  • Ability to review technical documentation to find substitute parts
  • Expertise in design and building of cables and wiring harnesses. Handling of crimp tools
  • Inventory tracking and maintaining organization of the electrical engineering lab, which includes test equipment, tools, parts, components, both electrical and mechanical.
  • Understand and follow quality and ESD standards
  • Use of power supplies, meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other electronics test equipment

Research Engineer II/III

Herndon, Virginia location.

You will work to develop new generations of sensing and real-time processing and actuation technologies in a fast-paced and exciting environment. As part of a small and dedicated team, you will be given immediate responsibility for designing, testing, and analyzing complex mechanical systems. You will frequently design, carry out, and analyze data from experiments to test energetic and optical components and systems. You will collaboratively develop designs from concept to production, with hands-on involvement to oversee parts fabrication, system assembly and validation testing along the way. Typical day-to-day work is done using CAD for design, Excel and Matlab to guide the design process or to analyze test data, and possibly simulation tools such as Autodyn or ABAQUS to design and refine experimental tests. Prototype part and test article fabrication often occurs in-house, with larger orders outsourced to local vendors under the engineer’s direct supervision. Once parts or systems become available, validation testing occurs on a regular basis at internal Artis facilities and at test facilities around the country.
